Skip size questions, answered
What skip size do I need?
Match the skip to the job. A 2 yard skip suits a small garden tidy or a small clear out, a 4 yard skip is our most popular household size for a bathroom refit or garage clearance, 6 and 8 yard skips cover kitchen refits and most home renovations, and 12 and 14 yard skips handle large clearances. If you are between sizes, go bigger.
What size skip is best for a house clearance?
For a full house clearance a 12 yard skip is the usual choice, because it takes bulky items such as sofas, wardrobes and mattresses as well as general waste. For a single room or a garage, a 4 or 6 yard skip is normally enough. Think about access too: a 12 yard skip needs a clear space to be dropped.
What size skip do I need for a garden clearance?
A 2 yard skip is ideal for small garden projects such as clearing a border or a shed. For bigger landscaping jobs with turf, soil and cuttings, a 6 yard skip is the popular choice. Choose Green Waste as your waste type when you book, and remember soil is heavy, so do not overfill a large skip with it.
Which skip size do builders use most?
The 8 yard skip is our builders skip and the favourite among tradespeople in Selby and York, because it holds most of the waste from a typical renovation. Builders doing landscaping or kitchen refurbishments often choose a 6 yard skip, and the 14 yard skip is mostly used on construction sites.
Which skip sizes can I book online?
Our 2, 4, 6, 8, 12 and 14 yard skips can all be booked online with your postcode. For a 16 yard skip, a 20 or 40 yard RoRo container or an enclosed skip, call our Selby office on 01757 642032 and the team will arrange it directly. Larger skips need ten days notice online.
What is the smallest skip you offer?
Our smallest is the 2 yard mini skip. It is ideal for small garden projects and small house clearance jobs, and it is easy to fit on a standard driveway. If you are clearing a single room or doing a small DIY job in Selby or York, the 2 yard skip is usually enough.
What is the biggest skip you offer?
Our largest container is the 40 yard RoRo, used by businesses and construction sites with high volumes of bulky waste. We also supply a 20 yard RoRo and a 16 yard skip. These are not bookable online, so call the office to discuss access, because a RoRo needs room for a hook loader wagon.
Can I put a double mattress in a small skip?
Mattresses can go in any size of skip for an additional charge, as long as you add them when you book and place them inside the skip. A double mattress takes up a large share of a 2 or 4 yard skip, so if you have other waste as well, choose a 6 yard skip or larger.
Will an 8 yard skip fit on my driveway?
An 8 yard skip fits on most standard driveways, but the wagon also needs a clear run in and out. Tell us about narrow gateways, tight turns, parked cars, shared drives and overhead cables or trees when you book. If access is tight, a 6 yard skip may be the better choice.
Do bigger skips take longer to deliver?
Slightly. Standard skips up to 14 yards need three days notice when booked online, while larger skips need ten days and are hired for up to seven days rather than 14. If you need a large skip quickly, call the office, because we can often help sooner than the online form allows.
How many bin bags fit in each skip?
As a rough guide, a 2 yard mini skip holds 20 to 30 bin bags, a 4 yard midi skip 40 to 50, a 6 yard small builders skip 60 to 70, an 8 yard maxi builders skip 80 to 90, a 12 yard jumbo skip 120 to 130, a 14 yard skip 140 to 150 and a 16 yard skip 160 to 170. Our 20 and 40 yard RoRo containers are used by businesses rather than households.
