Skips for house clearances, renovations and garden waste
Decided to have a clear-out at the last minute? Maybe your project has over-run slightly, and you’re chipping in some weekend overtime? Whatever the reason for needing us out of hours, you can rely on us to provide a 5-star rated service.
House clearances and moving home. Clearing a loft, a garage or a whole house before a move is one of the most common reasons to hire a skip. A 4 yard skip suits a single room or garage, and a 12 yard skip handles a full house clearance with larger furniture.
Kitchen, bathroom and home renovations. Old units, tiles, timber and packaging add up quickly. Our 8 yard builders’ skip is the size most tradesmen choose and is widely used for home renovations. Plasterboard must be kept separate, and we can supply 1 tonne plasterboard bags with your skip.
Garden clearance. Branches, turf, hedge cuttings and soil all go in a skip. Choose green waste as your waste type when you book so we can recycle it properly at our Selby site. Rubble and soil can be booked online as the main waste for our standard sizes; for a large load of heavy material, call us.

What you can and cannot put in a domestic skip
Household and bulky waste from clear outs, renovations and garden jobs can all go in: old furniture, timber, rubble, turf and green waste. Mattresses, fridges, freezers and tyres can go in for an additional charge as long as you add them when you book. Plasterboard must be kept separate. We cannot take asbestos, oils and fuels, paints, gas bottles, or corrosive, flammable, toxic or infectious materials. Carpets can make up no more than 10% of the load.

Get set up for your Domestic Skip Hire
You may well have concerns about the logistics of getting a skip onto your property and – once filled – getting it out again too. A lot of factors can impede the process of supplying a skip, including:
If you live on a cul-de-sac or a dead-end road with no access to through-traffic, we will need to establish the best way to get your skip delivered to you or look for an alternative waste clearance solution. Contact us to see how what we can arrange.

We endeavour to always offer a solution for waste removal, even when it involves narrow roads, country lanes and roads that have a lot of parked cars. If you would like a skip but are aware of potential problems, please contact us to see how we can help.

It’s always worthwhile speaking to our team and letting us know if there are any potential complications when it comes to having a skip delivered to your driveway. Please make us aware if the driveway is shared or if there are any drainage points or manholes that may not be able to bear the weight of a skip.

When it comes to supplying you with a skip, we will always work with you to come up with a solution. Another potential issue can be if your driveway is too narrow for a skip to placed, if you think this could be the case, just contact our team to discuss measurements.

Overhead hazards that are not in your direct eyeline may sometimes be overlooked but need to be considered when thinking about skip hire. Overhead phone cables tall trees can cause problems when our vehicles are offloading and loading your skip, so before you book, look up! Make us aware of any potential overhead hazards and we can make the appropriate arrangements ahead of time for a hassle free delivery.

Domestic Skip Hire in Selby and York: Frequently Asked Questions
Who can hire a domestic skip?
Our domestic skip hire service is for homeowners, tenants, landlords and property agents across Selby, York, Goole and the surrounding areas. Whether you are renovating, having a mass clear out before a move or doing the annual garden clearance, we have a skip for the job, available six days a week.
Do I need a permit for a skip on my driveway?
No. A skip on your driveway, front garden or any other private land does not need a permit. You only need one if the skip has to sit on the road, and in that case we apply to the local council for you as an approved supplier. Call the office rather than booking online if that applies.
What household waste can go in a domestic skip?
Domestic skips take the general and bulky waste from clear outs, renovations and garden jobs: old furniture, timber, rubble, turf and green waste. Hazardous items such as asbestos, paints, oils and gas bottles cannot go in, plasterboard must be kept separate, and mattresses and fridges carry an additional charge.
Do you deliver domestic skips in York as well as Selby?
Yes. We deliver domestic skips across York and the surrounding villages as well as Selby, Goole and the other towns in our service area. Enter the first part of your postcode in the checker to confirm we cover your street, or call our York office on 01904 411445 to talk it through.
Which days do you deliver domestic skips?
Our domestic skip hire service runs six days a week, Monday to Saturday. The Selby office is open from 7am to 6pm on weekdays and 8am to 4pm on Saturdays, so you can arrange a delivery to suit your project. Same and next day delivery is also available when a skip is free near you.
Do I pay before or after my skip is collected?
You pay when you book, so the price is agreed before the skip arrives and you only pay the price quoted. There are no hidden charges. The only extra you might see is for items you did not book, such as a mattress added later, or for keeping the skip beyond the standard hire period.
What skip sizes are available for domestic use?
We supply skips from 2 cubic yards right up to 16 cubic yards for domestic customers. The 2, 4 and 6 yard skips are the most popular for home use, from a small garden project to a bathroom or kitchen refit. If you are not sure which size you need, call our Selby team for free advice.
How do I book a domestic skip in four steps?
Enter your postcode in the checker, choose your skip size, pick a delivery date and wait for your skip to arrive. The online form shows the price before you pay and asks about any extras. We will apply for a council permit on your behalf if the skip has to go on the road.
What should I check before my skip is delivered?
Look up and look around. Overhead phone cables and tall trees can stop our wagon loading and unloading safely, and narrow gateways, tight turning spaces, parked cars and cul de sacs can affect access. Tell us about any of these when you book and we will plan the delivery around them.
Can a skip go on a shared driveway or over a manhole?
Let us know when you book. A shared driveway may need your neighbour's agreement and a clear spot that does not block anyone in. Drainage points and manhole covers may not bear the weight of a loaded skip, so we need to place it away from them. Our team will always work with you to find a solution.
